STATE COMPETITIONS

Established in 1995, the California Golden State Choral Competition is an invitation-only event that brings the top high school choirs in the Northern California region together for friendly showcase and competition. Its stated mission is "To seek out and award choral excellence throughout the state of California".  Schools may compete in one of both of two divisions: Large Choir and Small Choir.
The event starts off with performances adjudicated by highly regarded choral directors, and concludes with an awards ceremony attended by all choirs.

In 2014, Shasta High Choir competed in the California Golden State Choral Competition for the first time, where A capella placed 5th in the large choir division. They competed again in 2015 and won 4th place, and again in 2016 and won 3rd place. In 2016, the Madrigal Choir competed in the small choir division of the Golden State Competition and won 5th place.
