REDDING, Calif. — The David Marr Theatre is buzzing with excitement as Shasta High School presents its annual musical, "Grease." The production, set in the 1950s at Rydell High, features the iconic "Burger Palace Boys" and "Pink Ladies."

Duncan Anderson, a senior at Shasta High, takes on the lead role of Danny Zuko. "It has been a real blast playing the role of Danny Zuko," said Anderson. "One of the big challenges has been getting the alternative personality of being tough and cool in front of the gang and then when it comes to Sandy, I am a lot more vulnerable and a lot more heartfelt than with some of the guys. I don't think it is too hard to act like Danny, you have just got to be like a 50s bad boy, you have to have that cool energy. And then when you get around Sandy, you have got to be the most in love boy to a girl that you've ever seen."

When asked if he drew inspiration from "The Fonz" on "Happy Days," Anderson admitted he had no idea who or what that was.

Jayden Hughes, also a senior, stars as Sandy Dumbrowski. "I would say the character is kind of different from what I am in real life, so it is kind of challenging to take on her role because she is a little bit more reserved," said Hughes. "But I really enjoy playing Sandy because she has a lot of character development. I feel as though, even though it is about Danny and Sandy's love story, it also encapsulates Sandy's growth."

The musical will be performed tonight and tomorrow night at 7 p.m., with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Additional performances are scheduled for next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $22 for adults, $20 for seniors aged 62 and older, and $12 for those 18 and younger.
